Bee Keeping Group (online)

I've started this group so that we can find out who is interested in learning more about bee keeping in the area - and see if we can develop from there

Hi Simon,

Good to make contact!
I'm away now until Monday, but will be at Salusbury School's garden in the Cemetery all day on monday where I volunteer - if you are around it would be great to meet (I'm there till 6pm). Otherwise try me again on the mobile,
Jane

Hi there, have just discovered K2K tonight after a walk and chat in Paddington Cemetery. I am already keeping bees in the cemetery so would be interested in finding out more about the plans. I also know a fellow Kilburn Bee-keeper who would be very happy to help with the project if he could put another hive alongside yours. Best wishes, Simon

The possibility of bees in the Paddington cemetery (Willesden Lane) has firmed up, with the ground staff and the council saying that we're now allowed to have a community hive there. Hooray! That gives us a real focus for getting a course organised and people attending and then helping to run the hive.

Hi Aylie - I would be really interested in doing the course! Please add my name to the list. Thanks!!

Sorry I have not responded, but my mother died in May. The course sounds very interesting but I cannot afford this at present.
There is an interesting sounding book which was reviewed in the Ecologist on beekeeping.

Anyone who would be interested in joining an introductory, practical bee keeping course would you please let me know asap? We need to determine numbers of interested people before we can confirm costs and dates but we would hope to be running these in the local area over 2 separate days during the next couple of months.

We are getting closer to hopefully being able to set up a community hive and would like to get some keen would-be bee keepers involved. As there is some grant money available for local Transition projects this would be a heavily subsidised training. We would hope to have at least 10 people involved (but hopefully more) and run a pre hive and post hive set up course - 2 sessions of probably 4-5 hours each. At the moment the subsidised cost of each of these sessions would be approximately £20.

This will be a great way of getting involved with Transition locally and will hopefully inspire more people to embark upon keeping bees. They need our help at the moment so even if you don't fancy the hands on aspect of beekeeping the more you know about these amazing little creatures the more you can understand their ways, share this information with others and ultimately do your bit to support their survival.

Please be in touch if you think this is something you would like to get involved with.

Dear Aylie,
I'd be keen to meet up and talk about about starting a hive and sharing the load (as well as the honey). I think Jane Edwards is someone else who'd be interested too.

Michael Stuart told me about a local bee-keeping, honey production event nest Tuesday evening at Moishe House. They are a Jewish community group but are more than happy to have anyone attend (I asked). Here are the details.

Show me the Honey!
Date: Tuesday, 20 April 2010
Time: 19:30 - 21:30
Location: The NEW Moishe House London

Join Keith Kahn-Harris and Kevin Sefton at MoHoLo for the first gathering of an exciting new initiative! The aim of this project is to help make the UK Jewish community self-sufficient in honey for Rosh Hashanah within 5 years. We need 200 hives to do this. Bee-keeping is surprisingly easy, immensely fulfilling and has a sweet reward. You don't need much space to do it - you can even put hives on a roof. Could you or someone you know be interested? Do you know of a Jewish organisation that might be willing to host a hive? As well as being fun, this project has a serious purpose: join us in working
towards a more sustainable Jewish community and to help promote
biodiversity. If you want to get involved then please contact us at

I am quite new to beekeeping but always wanted to know more about it.

I would be keen to be involved and have completed an introductory bee keeping course (and done a fair amount of reading). Still a lot to learn though which will only be achieved through practical application. I haven't been able to commit to investing in setting up a hive yet and would prefer to embark upon the process with some other interested people. Is anyone else interested and, if so, I will gladly arrange a meeting to discuss next steps...
