Thanks for the minutes, Sanchia. 

Re Brent Magazine, Marjorie, would you like me to take some photographs at Queens Park? Also we have some professional ones done by Jonathan last year.

Re Seed/seedling swap. I'm running a workshop in Peterborough Sat April 21st so won't be able to help this year (unless people felt Sunday 22nd would be equally good, in which case I'm happy to be involved again.)

More good news! Heard from Marjorie they got £300 as well.

In reply to your post, Molly, we had to specify what the money would be used for when we applied for it, so we don't have much room for manoevre. However, we have already had discussions with Queens Park about the use of the overall area and are waiting for them to take action on a commitment they made to very substantially reduce the size and height of the privet hedge, which is an important first step.

Expanding the project also depends on us being able to attract more gardeners ... there has been a constant shortage of people with the time and energy to come regularly. For this reason, it may be a priority to spend some of the money on publicity.

Having said all this, suggestions are always welcome!

Dear Maggie,

Can we suggest things for the £450? I think a nut orchard around the area of the allotment would be so good or a fruit orchard. The area immediately beside the raised bed in Q. Park is not used for anything, no golf, no tennis, no sitting, no football.

Good news arrived today in the mail. Queens Park Allotment has been successful in its Capital Growth grant application and has been awarded £450. This is largely thanks to Miko, who drafted the application, worked out the budget and made sure the referee - a manager at Queens Park - was briefed and gave a prompt and positive reference.

It looks as though the check has to come to me as the contact person and I have to sign an undertaking saying I'll personally ensure that the money is spent as agreed in the application. In fact, I'd rather transition held the funds and released them on provision of receipts from me or Miko. Does anyone know if that's possible?   Maggie

Eight more Boroughs out of the total of 33 were praised for "making excellent progress on key food issues" - Camden, Croydon, Enfield, Greenwich, Merton, Sutton, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest - achieving progress on all or most of the key food activities surveyed. Meanwhile, six Boroughs were highlighted as "lagging behind disappointingly on action to support healthy and sustainable food" - Bexley, Brent, Hillingdon, Lewisham, Newham and Westminster.

Hello again,

Sanchia and I had an inspiring time at Food from the Sky in Crouch End for the launch of the new Transition Companion on Wednesday. Not only did we get some great ideas for a community allotment space, but we met the founder of the Transition movement, Rob Hopkins, and were rather excited to see pictures from Transition Willesden's first meeting and the Kilburn tube station planting featuring in the new handbook!
