Event Description

This event is full - please book on the repeat session on Feb 20th.

Pruning stimulates new growth, improves the quality of fruit, helps trees live longer and makes it much easier to pick the fruit. This means Kensal to Kilburn Fruit Pickers won’t be required as often, which, oddly, is a good thing.

Come along and discover how to prune small to medium trees with secateurs, loppers, a pruning saw and maybe a stepladder. We can lend tools to use in your own garden and provide a fellow-volunteer to help you carry out your pruning.

The session will be a mix of theory and practical. Rain and temperature permitting, we hope to go outside and jointly carry out a real live pruning on the day. If you know a tree to prune in walking distance of the library please let me know!

The idea is also that the group offers a voluntary pruning service to the people who let us pick their fruit last year and possibly to others in the area.

Carol French of Glorious Gardens is our trainer.

Matthew, Its a shame you can't come as weather permitting we will be pruning another James Grieve, aged 60.I hope we'll do another session but not sure yet. Have added you to list of interested people. Would you like us to come and prune your tree free anyway with you if there isn't training?

Dear Pruners, I have a James Grieve in my garden which badly needs pruning, but I am doing something else on 4th, so hope that a second session could be arranged. I am keen and have bought one of those curved saws, but need to get to a shed to buy some anti-bleeding paste and that paper which stops codling moths....in their tracks!

I'd love to come, tho' happy to step aside for more locally based prunists if over-booked. I can bring my own secateurs!

Thank you for organising this. I would be interested, though I can’t come on 4 Feb. Good luck with it. Yes, tips would be good
