A talk about food growing and harvesting, a harvest food swap, and a presentation about plans to green the area around Sainsbury’s in Willesden Green are on the agenda for a meeting of “Transition Willesden” next Monday in Willesden.  This is the third meeting of the new environmental community group, and will be held at the Rising Sun pub, 25 Harlesden Road, in Willesden on Monday 3rd October at 7.30pm.

Allotment columnist for The Lady and group member, Sarah Langton-Lockton will be giving a talk about food growing and harvesting. Sarah, a Willesden resident who has been growing food on allotments for 20 years, says, “You don't need a garden or allotment - a window box, a pot on the balcony or front steps, or even a windowsill will all provide wonderful food.”

Dollis Hill resident and group member who started Transition Willesden, Viv Stein, says, “Transition is about local communities coming together to make their neighbourhoods greener, friendlier, more sustainable and less wasteful places to live in.  It lets people find their own solutions to deal with the very real challenges of climate change, rising food prices and the end of cheap oil, without waiting for politicians to take a lead.

“To celebrate local food we’re inviting people to bring along harvest foods to swap.  That could be something you’ve grown – beans, tomatoes or apples, edible plants or fruit you’ve foraged, homemade jams or chutneys, or even a favourite recipe.  You’ll also be able to have your say on plans to green the area around Sainsbury’s in Willesden Green.”

The “Transition Willesden” meeting is being held at the Rising Sun pub, 25 Harlesden Road, Willesden, NW10 2BY at on Monday 3rd October at 7.30pm.  All are welcome to come along; entry is free, donations are welcome for the food swap.  For more information about the event see http://ttkensaltokilburn.ning.com/events/transition-willesden-publi....
