Benefit film night this Friday to save Brent Libraries

Dear All, this is my first blog so I hope it works. A friend of mine supports the campaign to stop Brent from closing local libraries, which is of course dear to the hearts of Transition Folk. We seem to use them a lot, both as borrowers and as venues, so I hope that you will come along to the film if you can. I'll be there and it would be great to meet some of you afterwards for a drink. Let me know if you plan to come and we can wear distinctive clothing, or something.

Screening of the film Cruel Separation . 7pm for 7.45pm,
Friday, 23 September, 2011 at the Kingsgate Community Centre, 107 Kingsgate Road, Kilburn NW6 2JH.
Tickets £10 [£8 concessions].

Cruel Separation is the story of General Pinochet's American backed military coup in Chile in1973, told through the eyes of four women who lived through it. Angela Jeria de Bachelet - wife of an air force general loyal to Allende, experienced the brutality of the military first hand being held in the Villa Grimadi with her daughter Michelle Bachelet (who assumed as the Chilean President in 2006); Joyce Horman, whose story was made internationally famous in Costa-Gavras Oscar-winning film "Missing"; Hortensia Bussi de Allende - wife of deposed President Salvador Allende; Joan Jara English wife of Chilean political singer songwriter, Victor Jara. Narrated by Donald Sutherland, the film covers the coup from different perspectives and how the four women survived, picked up their lives afterwards and carried on in exile and back in Chile, to tell their stories of love and loss. There will be a Q & A session with the director, Sarah Boston. This film has won the International Documentary Award 2006 (Vina del Mar Film Festival Chile) and the Melhor Longa Documentario  (Cinesul 2007 Brazil) Refreshments available from 7pm.
