Big conversations: With over twenty-five speakers from a range of backgrounds, you can be sure to learn something new. But unlike a conference, The Bigger Picture will give you a chance to join the conversation. Topics will include the future of food and farming, the hidden costs of economic growth, civil liberties and climate change, local economics and how inequality leaves us all worse off.
Skill-sharing: Forsake your dependence on energy-hungry consumer gadgets and start doing things for yourself in our re-skilling workshops. Learn to bake real bread, build a thermal solar panel, make incredible crafts and perform other handy feats. When the oil shortages come, you’ll be grateful you came along.
Art galleries: The works of leading contemporary artists will be on display during the festival, inspired by the issues of the day. You can even add your own masterpiece to the Bigger Picture gallery.
Tales of how it turned out right: If we’re going to meet the social, economic and ecological challenges of our time, we need to start telling new stories about where our world is heading. Join our resident bards and recite your own transition tale in our storytelling sessions.
Film screenings: We’ll be showing the best documentaries on environmental, economic and social issues. Watch trailers and clips.………..
Doctor’s surgeries: Have you ever wanted to talk climate change with a real atmospheric physicist? Or discuss the building blocks of a happy life with an expert on well-being? Or perhaps you just want to grill an economist about the financial crisis. Get your burning questions answered by someone in the know at our Doctor’s Surgeries.
Five Ways to Well-being: Using nef research on easy actions to make us happier, we’ll be encouraging visitors to Connect with each other, Keep Learning, Be Active, Take Notice of the things around them, and Give something to others throughout the day.
