Hello!

I've recently created a North West London free items WhatsApp Group.

There are also 2 NCT buy and sell WhatsApp groups that some of you may want to join if you have clothes, toys and other equipment for babies and young children that you'd like to sell or give away for free - or if you're looking for 2nd hand items to buy.

One group is for 0-12 months, the other for 1-5 years old.

Send me an email (amandine.london@gmail.com) with your number and I'll send you a link to join the group you're interested in.

A zero waste shop called Liberté Chérie has recently opened in Notting Hill.

The address is 291 Portobello Road.

Park the plastic has a (short) list of plastic free partners in West Hampstead -restaurants and cafés that are using sustainable alternatives to single use cafés.

Hi Marie,

I'm glad that you're buying your veg from Field to Fork organics. I was one of the people involved in the creation of the veg box. : )

I also buy toilet paper from Who gives a crap. : )

You may be interested in knowing that some people in West Hampstead are campaigning for plastic reduction in their area. I found about it yesterday by chance when I was in the area.

Their website is called Park the Plastic. They've listed a number of shops in West Hampstead where you can buy package free items or items that will help you to cut on your single plastic use.

Concerning the package free items you're looking for, it's probably worth trying to make your own apple vinegar if you have time. I haven't tried it myself but I've looked up a few recipes and it seems fairly easy to make at home.

Best,

Amandine

hi Amandine
thank you for your reply.
i have actually tried the shop in kentish town (for chickpeas, lentil, rice, nuts, olive oil etc) but this is a bit too far especially with all the boxes.
great to know for waitrose and the italian deli thank you.
what i m missing in bulk (in addition to a local shop) is : vinegar, flour, non dairy milk, pasta.
i tried to bring my boxes at queens park market but i found prices a bit too expensive.
fyi if that helps i m now buying my veg from fieldtofork (from this website) & i started getting my toilet paper and tissues from whogivesacrap (slightly more pricey but recycled paper and no plastic packaging) & i invested in the berkey water filter.
oh i also would like to make my own yogurts in case you have a successful non dairy yogurt recipe :)
thank you !

Hi Marie,

Apologies for taking so long to reply to your email.

I'm afraid that I don't know any local shops where we can buy in bulk...

I think one of the closest organic bulk shops is located in Kentish Town. But other members of this group may know a place closer to NW6. Please let us know if you do.

I take my plastic boxes to Waitrose Finchley Road to buy fish, meat and cheese from the various counters.

I also bought some parmesan from L'Angolo, the Italian deli located on College road recently. I handed them a plastic box and asked them to put the cheese directly into it.

I also used my boxes at the farmers' market in Queen's park quite a few times.

I haven't found a way to buy package free pasta yet. I think I'll have to buy big bags of pasta -the problem is that it's not easy to find big bags of organic pasta, I find. Or to buy them in cardboard boxes.

What are you struggling with in particular at the moment?

Let me know and I'll try my best to help you.

Kind regards,

Amandine

Good afternoon,

We are a small number of people here but I don't need to tell you that the interest in plastic reduction has increased very significantly in the UK since the end of last year.

I'm interested in finding out what each of you is doing at the moment to reduce their waste production and challenges you've encountered.

It's Real Nappy week until Saturday 29th April. On this occasion I've written a post on my blog

Looking forward to hearing back from you,

Amandine
