An eye-opening documentary about the fashion industry will be shown at the Lexi Cinema on Monday 15th February. It will be followed by a Q&A.
More and more of us care about the food we consume - where it comes from, how it has been grown etc. But shouldn't we care just as much about the clothes we wear?
The True Cost, directed by Andrew Morgan, shows how impulsive high street clothes buying choices have far reaching political, economic and environmental impacts.
Andrew Morgan started his investigation into 'fast fashion' when a picture of two boys searching for their mother in the collapsed Bangladesh clothing factory reminded him of two of his own children. Along the way he recruited industry stars such as Stella MacCartney, People Tree's Safia Minney and eco-fashion evangelist Livia Firth.
The film has provoked passionate discussion and influenced choices whereever it has been shown.
The panel discussion will include Guardian journalist Lucy Siegle, a specialist in ethical living, will chair, Dilys Williams, Director and Professor of Fashion Design for Sustainability at London College of Fashion, and Safia Minney, social entrepreneur, author and founder/CEO of People Tree, the sustainable and fair trade fashion label.
