Although it says 1 member above, we have 4 directors and 32 member-investors!
Everything is now in place for the installation starting next week, 29th August, completing just in time before pupils return en masse the following week.
Four installers with 'high-access' skills will be putting up the 198 panels (just short of 50 kW maximum output), the two 25 kW inverters and cabling. They can get on the roof of the science block via an internal staircase, but the panels, etc. get raised on a kind of high reach fork-lift truck from the north side of the building.
Once connected up, the expected generation is around 45,000 kWh p.a. Most of it will go to the school, with a small proportion (~2%) getting exported to the grid. Overall income from the Feed-in-Tariff and sale to the school (at half-price) will be around £8000 p.a out of which has to cover interest and capital repayment to investors and running costs (insurance, admin, replacement parts, etc).
Organising this has all been a bit like a hurdle race, always having to worry about the next one! And its not over yet. The hurdles have been: FCA, HMRC, UCEF, EPC, OFGEM, UKpower networks, Brent planning dept, EFA, not to mention bankers, accountants, solicitors and a little bit of internal wrangling!
Thanks to all of you who have helped us on our way: George, Michael, Amandine, Sophia, Maggie and many others.
Nick
