Tiverton Rejuvenation: After 26 years of neglect, there is now a plan to renovate the old tennis courts on Tiverton Green. The new facilities will lift the Green and give a real boost to the area. They will give your children somewhere safe to ride their bikes and skate, play football, basketball, cricket and table tennis. For adults, there will be the opportunity to join in your kids’ games, exercise on the outdoor gym equipment, or just sit and enjoy the transformed Green.
The project cost has been estimated at £300,000. The partners involved in all this are: APRATA (Aylestone Park Residents’ and Tenants’ Association), Groundwork London, our local councillors and Brent Council. So far, Brent has paid Groundwork London for the consultation, design and fundraising assistance out of Brondesbury and Queens Park Ward Working monies. They have identified some major grant funds to apply for - including some that would match funds we raise - and we hope that the addition of potential contributions from the Council’s regeneration and sports budgets will bring in the lion’s share of this.
However, in order to qualify for these grants, the community needs to show that it has raised a significant proportion of the target. We have been set a target of raising £50,000 from the local community – residents and businesses - over the next 12 months. This will be from incentives for individuals to contribute, community fund-raising activities and any other means we can all dream up! If all goes according to plan, work will take place by 2013-14.
