The owner of the Corrib rest, Ashcross limited, has applied for planning. If approved by Brent council, the plan will lead to the loss of the first floor function rooms at the Corrib Rest.

The deadline for comments is Thursday 23rd March.

You can make comments on the website (council preferred method) after registering:  https://pa.brent.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=DCAPR_131699

Alternatively you can email the planning officer: Barry.Henn@brent.gov.uk - make sure you quote reference16/5398, state if you oppose and include your full postal address.

The Corrib rest meanwhile project core group and TTKK have reasons for opposing planning permission.

In order to replace the existing community rooms, the developers propose a much smaller function room on the ground floor which community groups have priority to use Monday-Wednesday only and for a maximum of 23 hours a week. This is not enough.

The past few years have seen the closure of a number of local community assets causing significant damage to the fabric of our area and loss of places for groups to meet and for family events. We cannot afford another community loss to private developers.

We have  tried to work with the owners for six months to create a temporary community hub. As a result, we consider they are unreliable partners and poor custodians of community space.

If enough people show the Corrib Rest matters and object we can still stop this from happening!

Hello,

In case you're not on the Corrib supporters mailing list please read the message below about the Meanwhile project. It's just been sent out to supporters.

For over six months many people have volunteered to create an exciting meanwhile community hub at the empty Corrib Rest on Salusbury Road. With great regret the planning group has decided to halt the project and look instead for alternative premises.

After six months of discussions we have lost confidence in the owners of the Corrib Rest as credible partners we can rely on or trust as explained below.

The Corrib Rest Planning Group and Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn thanks all the volunteers and local residents who have brought us this far as well as Brent Council and our local councillors. Our plans included cycle repairs, upcycling furniture and other making, co-working space for freelancers, a café, bar, classes, arts and music. We have learned an enormous amount in six months, have a mailing list of 400 interested locals and are ready to spring into action when we find another empty space.

We started discussions with the owners, Ashcross Ltd, via their planning consultants, Iceni, in July. In August we sent them the standard Department for Business meanwhile lease and agreed a principle for sharing the business rates saving.

However, since then despite much persistence and patience on our part, Ashcross has not committed themselves. In November they attempted to add a requirement that Transition Town had to support their planning application for building flats, which we resisted and they backed down. Before Xmas they changed their minds about sharing business rates. We were also very disappointed and surprised their Planning Statement in December claimed Transition Town had given support for the proposed flats development. We have never done so and required a correction, which has been carried out.

Given that this is only a six months meanwhile use, the time has therefore come to accept that Ashcross are not reliable or serious partners. We fear they may have been using us to improve their prospects for planning permission.  In contrast, we would like to put on record our thanks to Brent Council and local Councillors who efficiently and supportively helped us with planning use approval, the premises licence and business rates relief.

Transition Town Kensal to Kilburn has been active for seven years. Having a physical space will enable us to grow to another level in our vision of creating community and a more sustainable place to live. Our planning and preparation for the Corrib will stand us in good stead for the future. We have built a strong network and demonstrated interest locally – the open evening that 150 people attended will stay long in our memory. We will be back!

To make that quicker, if you know of empty premises or want to contact the project please email corribrest@gmail.com

We also aim to make use of the 2 large function rooms above the pub. Come and take a look on Tuesday 18th.

Hi
I am interested in taking space here as well as helping with running it. I am on Summerfield avenue.

It would be a very good space from which to support local streets running "kids play streets" under Brent's scheme.

We have our last of the season at 2pm on 15th.

I am busy in the evening of 18th - will anyone be around in the day or before 6?

Thanks

Chris

Yes, there is a shortage of rehearsal spaces for young play writers, this would be perfect.

I would be interested in a spoken word performance space here too. Perhaps this could be added to the list of possible uses? I'd be very happy to help with taking this forward, publicity programming etc

Would The Corrib be an ok space for rehearsing new plays by young play writers?
