Sweet Chestnut Foraging

If you travel through Hyde Park there is a beautiful avenue of Sweet Chestnut trees (about a hundred) just north of the Rotten Row cycle path and just south of the Serpentine. They are ripe and ready. Take leather gloves for plucking them off the tree and roll the husks under foot to get the nuts out. I got a carrier bag full on Tuesday. many thanks for the message; I have now contacted Harrow Beekeepers Association and will hopefully be joined soon. I entirely agree with your comments about the community project aspects; we are intending to approach with a similar model of 2 main participants - myself to be hopefully included, a few nucleus members and then to possibly introduce (further down the line, with more experience) some sort of open day type introductions.

Do you accept guests to your hives? I'm investigating a couple of sites at the moment, so it's always handy to see what others have done.

Hi David - sorry so long to get back to you. No one else has expressed an interest in meeting up yet so shall we go ahead and arrange a discussion? If Jane would like to join us that would be great also. I am really keen to get moving on this but find myself in a particularly busy period with work and other commitments so tricky to find free slots.
