Event Description

[For people unable to make this date, there are a few places on Saturday January 22nd for the same training with Mapesbury group]

Pruning stimulates new growth, improves the quality of fruit and makes it easier to pick.  Come and learn how to prune neglected small and medium-size apple or pear trees. We’ll also learn something about controlling pests and diseases.

The training is suitable for both beginners and people with experience. The day will be spent hands-on pruning about three trees in Brondesbury Park under guidance and supervision, unless the weather is too bad.

I hope participants can put their skills into practice in the weeks after the training, helping each other prune their own trees or trees we’ve previously harvested.

Ideally please bring a clean, sharp pair of bypass secateurs. These cost about £5 but we will have a few spares.  Saws & loppers will be provided.

Lawrence Usherwood, an arborculturalist and Brent’s enthusiastic and very knowledgeable Tree Protection Officer is our trainer. There’ll be up to 12 trainees. Price: £5 for the day.
