We all know air pollution in London is bad but how bad is it exactly where we live?
To find out what the situation is exactly in our part of North West London, Transition Kensal to Kilburn and Transition Willesden carried out an air pollution monitoring project in 2016 (click here for results).
If you want to find out what the quality of the air is in North West London nowadays, you can check the Breathe London website.
You can click on the different air pollution monitoring stations located in the area and find out what the levels of particulate matter (PM 2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are.
Six years since TTKK measured air pollution in the area, the air quality in our part of North West London remains poor. However, since October 2021, Brent south is covered by the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). That has led to a 20% drop in NO2 across the expanded ULEZ zone, according to a report published by the Mayor of London in July 2022.
If you want to receive regular updates about air pollution news for Brent and London and/or want to share articles and other bits of information about air pollution please join this group.

Here are the results of our pollution monitoring TTK2K map. As you can see all but two of our sites are over the EU legal limit for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and Kilburn High Road is nearly twice the limit
And here are the results for Transition Willesden TW map 1 and TW map 2 Seven of our 10 sites were above the EU legal limit for NO2, with Cricklewood Broadway being over twice the limit.
In all 75% of the 20 sites tested exceeded legal limits for the pollutant.
We met in mid January along with other community groups to decide on actions to follow up this and combat pollution in our area. Watch this space for how to get involved.

Hello,
There is a very important TFL consultation that closes in just 4 days. It's about the further expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to almost all of London by the end of August 2023.
If the ULEZ expansion goes ahead the whole of Brent will be covered by the ULEZ and we will all get to breath a cleaner air as a result.
A report published last week showed that the first expansion of the ULEZ that took place last October has led to a 20% drop in nitrogen dioxide in the expanded area. That's very positive as nitrogen dioxide is responsible for stunting children's lungs, among other things.
The environmental charity Possible has created a tool to make it easier for people to take part in the consultation.
Please express your support for the ULEZ expansion. It's not a done deal at the moment and every voice in favour of it counts.
Thank you!
Still no change in our MVHR air filters - as black as ever after 6 months!
Hi everyone,
Wood burning is a major source of air pollution in the UK but, unfortunately, there is very little awareness of how bad the impact of wood burning is on our health.
Mums for Lungs are organising an online event on this subject next week with Dr. Gary Fuller of Imperial college.
You can sign up for this free event by clicking the link below :

Brent : Build Back Better petition
Brent has been hit particularly hard by Covid-19. According to official statistics published two weeks ago, our borough has registered the highest number of deaths in the UK per 100 000 inhabitants.
Poverty has been linked with a high level of Covid mortality - nothing surprising, unfortunately. High level of air pollution may explain the highest mortality rate in Brent.
Brent council has been able to bid for some emergency funding to encourage residents to cycle and walk instead of using public transport and/or private cars.
To cut a long story short, so far, Brent Council has been slow off the mark and change is still to come...
We cannot wait and hope for the best. We need to build a more sustainable and more resilient Brent.
About 2 weeks ago, a petition asking the council to Build Back Better was launched by Brent Cycling Campaign, Brent Friends of the Earth, Divest Brent, Willesden Green Residents' Association and Extinction Rebellion Brent.
More than 400 people have signed it already.
It's a very good start but we need to pump up the volume. Please sign the petition here. It's meant to be the starting point of something bigger.

Clean Air for Brent meeting looking at the future of the car coming up on 22nd November details here
Let's have London first car free day.
Sign the petition here.
This is why I want London Mayor Sadiq Khan to agree to hold a Car Free Day on Saturday 22nd September 2018. It will be a day of community celebrations and street parties across London. It will be a day when families and communities gather outdoors and breathe fresh air. It will be a day for Londoners to come together to demonstrate a shared vision of a healthier, cleaner, greener future.
Other cities around the world, from Jakarta to Bogota to Paris, have a Car Free Day. They’ve done it successfully, and so can we. The day will be a catalyst for a better urban future for all Londoners and will demonstrate our global leadership in the transition to greener, cleaner, and healthier cities.
