Set up of the second community allotment project was completed last night with a second soil delivery and planting out in the back garden of a Community House on Brondesbury Park, not far from Willesden Green library. There are 3 large raised beds made from recycled wooden pallets and filled with vegetable goodness!

There is still plenty of opportunity for others to join us in this space, so if you're keen to grow some vegetables please get in touch.

Our first joint community allotment - working with 5 Ways Residents Association in the flats on Winchester Avenue - went in on Saturday. I recommend everyone who's interested taking a look. You can't miss it on the north side of the street with its scare crow and orange sign. The raised beds went in first (obviously) and then Transition volunteers filled them up with soil, then the kids from the flats and a few visitors planted out the seedlings we'd brought along and it all looks great. The residents are going to do the monitoring and watering and we'll be around to give some guidance and fill in the gaps. The atmosphere was really positive and its got all sorts of people stopping and chatting and applauding what we're doing together so a big thanks to everyone who helped on the day - and will doubtless carry on helping. Speaking of which... does anyone have some organic snail and slug pellets? I think the Pak Choi is particularly vulnerable and it would be good to get some protection for them asap.

Good luck with the building and planting this weekend. Would love to help but I'm away this weekend. Is it possible to get more notice for these events as I'd love to help out but am not usually available at such short notice. Are there any future days planned/even provisionally planned so I can note them in my diary?!

The Westminster Community Gardening Programme will reach out to at least 900 participants and develop 2,500 square metres of green space in Harrow Road, Queens Park and Westbourne. From clearing litter to creating ‘edible gardens’, activities will be developed in partnership with the local community. Answering local needs, it will also provide people with fun activities and exciting career opportunities.

I have some glass sheets (old sash windows) which I am happy to give away - could be used for cold frames. Someone was interested and did send me their phone number, but I can't now find the message (not really competent with the software running this site) so please send your phone number again

Hi all,
I've met a few of you before but i've been a bit off the radar recently with work being far too busy for my liking! I've finally also got round to sorting out my account on here so now I can keep in touch with what the food group is up to. I don't have a garden or any outdoor space to grow things or much time to put towards growing thing so I'm not sure what use I'm going to be but I'll keep an eye out for opportunities to help out. I have left the seed trays and starter flower pots in the front garden of 34 Lynton Road. Please help yourselves. I have some more robust flower pots but haven't had time to sort them out. Glass sheets - leave me your phone numbers and I'll contact you. Also, there are 3 (fomerly white) plastic garden chairs going free, in our front garden. They are a bit brittle now but should last a summer or three if you are careful.
