URGENT- Calling all keen diggers!  The volunteeer team at the Kilburn Tin Tabernacle (Cambridge Avenue, just over the road from Kilburn Park tube) need muscle this Saturday- 19th Feb- to help them dig out the roots of a tree which went under the building.  Just turn up there around 11.30 and bring a spade/ mattock/ pickaxe or crowbar if you have one.  Tea and ship's biscuits provided.  Read more about the Tin Tabernacle here.

And if you know you're coming please drop an e-mail to      priceart@btinternet.com

Hope to see you there!

Someone in the bee group steered me towards the 'Lets go Let's grow' section of 'Project Dirt' - worth a look as it seems to be a coalition of people trying to do the same kind of thing as Transition food groups. I googled it and was offered a tie in between Transition Wimbledon and Project Dirt for example - although I haven't looked at it yet other people might like to.

From the website it looks like this grant was suspended in 09?

Ashley, regarding the turfed fenced in area beside the tower block, perhaps in the Spring we could take up the turf and plant potatoes here? They don't need much work and wouldn't mind being in the shade from the building.

Has this Local Food grant funding ever been considered for TT projects? (It's lottery funding):

I think a comment was made at the last food group meeting about time input and involvement currently needed more than money for projects, but if we come up with a particularly ambitious idea, it might be useful.

Re William Saville house.. I think it would be great to organise a clearance party/event. I think we need to find out who runs the local residents association - BHP should be able to help with that. If you are speaking to Maureen from 5ways she may be able to suggest who to talk to.

Update on the Tin Tabernacle- it's not really about the compost heap- the scheme is larger than that and could include a community garden with access direct from the pavement. Ed Fordham's enthusiasm is infectious- he's already in the process of setting up a Trust to acquire the building, talking to interested groups (including us) and seeking funding for the restoration. Try to go there on a Saturday between 11 and 2pm to have a look and meet Ed. Read more at http://www.tintabernacle.000a.biz/index.htm.

The neglected fruit and veg garden at William Saville house (on Carlton Vale just south of Queen's Park Station) is FANTASTIC! There are raspberries (still fruiting), a laden red currant bush, small gooseberry bush, small fruit trees, a monster bay tree in need of pruning, a grape vine ditto and a number of veg beds (including asparagus). I tracked down the caretaker and talked to him and his wife about it (friendly couple from Ecuador) he sweeps the paths nearby, but doesn't have anything to do with the garden. He showed me a good place to put up a notice inside by the lift (once we have permission from Brent Housing Partnership). I then hung around by the door accosting people and asking if they knew about it... no one did.
I suggest asking BHP for permission to put up a notice advertising a day of clearance (with biscuits). Only question is whether to take a chance on the weather and do this soonish, or wait until early Spring. Any views?
